WHITE · solo exhibition · Anteros Art Foundation · Norwich · UK

Real WHITE object in a real space hidden under a perfectly WHITE surface. Without characteristics, attributes, features. So clean and unreal. A perfect world created by social media, newspapers and advertising. We are dealing with aesthetics in everyday life; the culture of beauty is overwhelming. On all sides we are bombarded with attractive people, beautiful interiors, elegant surroundings, but we lack a spiritual element. Striving for perfection has become the highest commodity in the modern world. Human happiness in life usually looks for a taste of ideal beauty. Freud stated that this is one of the most effective antidotes to relieve the constant suffering that life brings us. As Freud writes, “The enjoyment of beauty has a peculiar, mildly intoxicating quality of feeling. Beauty has no obvious use; nor is there any clear cultural necessity for it. Yet civilization could not do without it.” We hide human paint, desires, dreams under the cover of perfect white. In a perfect world everything has to be ideal, optimum, accurate. There is no room for mistakes, faults or blunders. Every day we are obliged to become marvellous, super and superlative. The need to demonstrate that everything is fine is constant. That nothing is wrong. That we still control the situation. We have to be clean, unblemished, sterile. Without feelings and emotions... perfect, wonderful….until something inside us breaks to become ourselves again.
